Lyrics

The sun is burning auburn,
As the sky is turning black,
And the acrid air we're breathin'
Brings the horror screaming back.

The radio is blaring,
And the siren screams across,
The fire's up the gully,
A couple mile 'most.

Parched,
Been feeding cattle dust,
Now even that is burning.

Crushed,
Land in the family longer than we know,
But it won't make it.

Hush,
Embers and lightning from the sky,
Promised rain betrays us.

Dad's been cutting grass,
Since dawn by now;
And the kids are running branches,
Away from the house;

The December heat is scorching,
It's sucking us all dry,
The car is packed and ready,
There won't be sleep tonight

Exhausted,
Weary to our bones,
But the fire waits for no one.

Devoured,
Flames licking up our hopes,
A piece of soul is taken.

Helpless,
Before the power of this land,
Mankind can not contain it.

Christmas Day is cancelled,
There's no water left to cry.
The eerie haze foreboding,
You can taste it in your mouth;

Haggard Firies,
Returning to the line;
And the whole town is gathered,
At the old showground.

Last,
All the roads have long been cut,
Pray the fire break is holding.

Gasp,
Echo'd in the children's eyes,
Our fate hangs on a wind change.

God,
Have mercy on our town,
And maybe we might make it.
